What Each Office Can Help With

All five LA County CSSD offices provide the same core services. No appointment needed for most services—walk in during business hours.

Open a Case

Apply for child support services if you don't have an existing case or order.

Genetic Testing

Paternity testing referrals and results interpretation for unmarried parents.

Modify an Order

Request a review and adjustment of your existing support order amount.

Enforcement

Wage garnishment, property liens, license suspension for non-payment.

Payment Issues

Setup direct deposit, electronic payment card, or resolve payment discrepancies.

Intergovernmental

Cases involving another state or country—reciprocity and UIFSA matters.

Support Calculations

Guideline calculator review and explanation of how your amount was determined.

Stipulations

Negotiate agreements between parents without a court hearing when possible.

PREPARATION

Before You Visit an Office

Walk-ins are welcome, but preparation saves time. Bring the right documents and know what to expect to resolve your issue in a single visit.

Bring Identification

Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or state ID). If you're the custodial parent, bring the child's birth certificate and Social Security cards for all parties.

Bring Financial Documents

Recent pay stubs (last 3 months), last year's tax return, W-2 or 1099 forms, and documentation of any other income sources. Self-employed? Bring profit/loss statements.

Bring Court Orders

Any existing child support orders, custody orders, divorce decrees, or paternity judgments. If you don't have copies, the office can often look them up, but bringing them speeds the process.

What to Expect at Check-In

1

Security Screening

All county buildings require bag check and metal detector

2

Intake Desk

Check in with reception, explain your issue, receive a queue number

3

Caseworker Meeting

Meet with a child support officer who will review your case and next steps

4

Documentation & Follow-Up

Receive written confirmation of actions taken and any court dates scheduled

Average wait time: 30–90 minutes depending on office and time of day. Arrive early in the morning for shortest waits.
